Andrew Volstead was a member of the Minnesota US House of Representatives who is most infamous for the Prohibition Act of 1919, deemed the Volstead Act. What many don’t know is that Volstead is also responsible
for the Capper-Volstead Act, which enabled farmers to form locally owned cooperatives without fear of prosecution. So we decided to start a yearly tradition called Volstead Days to mourn prohibition and celebrate cooperatives.
