We will be out serving samples today at the 9th Annual Pride Beer Dabbler at Minneapolis Sculpture Garden! For this years Pride Dabbler, we chose to highlight a forgotten about historical movement, the Gene
Compton’s Cafeteria Riots.Three years before Stonewall, Compton’s Cafeteria riots was a heroic act of trans resistance. In 1966, a group of trans women stood up to police inside Gene Comptons Cafeteria, which was a popular queer gathering spot, after being regularly subjected to harassment police. This sparked an unprecedented moment of trans resistance to police violence.
Many of the records have ‘disappeared’ from the Compton’s Cafeteria riots, but that does not make it any less important.
